“Grandpa, perhaps we should discuss this privately,” Peter suggested, but Chris refused.

“Unnecessary. I overheard your conversation that day. You told your mother you’d care for me but instead plotted to claim my property. That will NEVER happen, Peter. I’ve revised my will—this house will benefit charity after I’m gone,” he declared, astonishing everyone.

Hannah flushed with anger but restrained herself from causing additional embarrassment.
