Her Father Opened the Door, But His Wife Had Questions

Nia Carter did not plan to move back into her father’s house. At twenty-four, she had her own apartment, her own work routine, and no interest in feeling like a child again. But when major repairs made her building difficult to live in, she packed two suitcases and told herself it would only be for a few weeks.

The noise, dust, and workers in the hallways had worn her down. Staying with her father, Marcus, seemed like the simplest temporary solution. When she called to ask if she could come home for a little while, he did not hesitate.

Marcus told her the spare bedroom was hers. For Nia, that answer meant more than she expected.

When she pulled into his driveway, she repeated the same thought quietly: this was temporary. She had no plans to disrupt anyone’s life. She only needed a safe, familiar place until her apartment repairs were finished.
