South Africa to Honour Award-Winning Actor Presley ‘Cobrizi’ Chweneyagae with Memorials

South Africans will soon gather to celebrate the life and legacy of acclaimed actor Presley ‘Cobrizi’ Chweneyagae, who passed away on 27 May at the age of 40. His family confirmed that the beloved Tsotsi star died of natural causes following breathing complications.
To pay tribute to his immense contribution to the arts, two memorial services have been planned:
- 3 June – Mmabatho Convention Centre (Mahikeng) – A hometown tribute.
- 5 June – State Theatre (Tshwane) – A gathering of industry peers and fans.
His funeral service will be held on Saturday, 7 June, at the Akasia Community Hall (Gauteng), starting at 08:00, followed by burial at Zandfontein Cemetery (Pretoria).

The Chweneyagae family, deeply moved by the public’s support, has requested privacy as they mourn their sudden loss.
