Actress Manaka Ranaka Opens Up About Struggles Coping With the Death of Her Daughter Katlego

South African actress Manaka Ranaka has opened her heart to the public, revealing the immense pain she continues to carry following the tragic loss of her eldest daughter, Katlego Ranaka. The Generations: The Legacy star took to Instagram on Tuesday, 26 August 2025, to share a deeply emotional message, admitting that life has not been the same since her daughter’s passing seven months ago.

Katlego, who died in January 2025 at just 24 years old, left behind a void that Manaka says she has not been able to fill. In a video and heartfelt caption, the actress explained that mornings are especially difficult, as she often struggles to find the strength to get out of bed.

“I wish I could say it’s getting easier, but I can’t, not yet. My mornings are the toughest. Most times it’s hard to get up and face the world. But for Lele, Seni and Mpho, I kick those blankets! I make sure I get up for them and for myself. Rest easy, my big girl,” she wrote.

The award-winning actress, who plays Lucy Diale on the SABC 1 soapie, said her grief remains overwhelming, but she continues to push through for the sake of her other children. Despite the pain, she expressed gratitude for the love and support she has received from South Africans who continue to rally behind her.

Her emotional post quickly drew thousands of reactions from fans, colleagues, and ordinary South Africans who sympathised with her loss. Many flooded her comment section with words of encouragement, reminding her that healing is a journey.

One fan wrote: “I know your pain, Sisi. I pray that God will renew your strength daily. You’re in my prayers.” Another added: “It doesn’t get better, but you learn to live with the pain. I’m so sorry, my sister.”

Others shared their personal experiences of grief, reassuring Manaka that she is not alone. Many encouraged her to lean on her faith, her family, and her supporters during this dark period.

Her latest post was no different, showing both her vulnerability and her determination to remain strong. “Umtanami ulele,” she wrote in one part of her caption, meaning “my child is resting in peace.”

A Mother’s Pain
The actress also previously revealed that Katlego’s father, Sipho Lekaba, was not present in her daughter’s life. Despite this, Manaka has always been vocal about her dedication to her children, raising them with love and resilience.
