Gauteng Police Search for ActionSA Mayoral Candidate Xolani Khumalo Over Alleged Assault Case

Gauteng police are reportedly searching for Action South Africa (ActionSA) mayoral candidate and former Sizok’thola presenter on Moja Love, Xolani Khumalo, in connection with an alleged assault that is said to have taken place in December last year. The incident allegedly involved Khumalo and two other individuals during what has been described as a festive season operation in Katlehong, east of Johannesburg.
According to information emerging from the case, police have already arrested Duma Radebe, the chairperson of the Gauteng Crime Fighting Units. Radebe was taken into custody following a complaint laid by a man who claims to be a drug dealer. The complainant alleges that he was assaulted and threatened with firearms during the operation.
The case was reportedly opened in December after the complainant accused Radebe and his alleged accomplices of using excessive force. It is further alleged that Khumalo and a third individual were present at the time of the incident and participated in the assault. The complainant claims he was confronted, assaulted, and had a firearm pointed at him after being accused of selling drugs in the area.
Gauteng SAPS spokesperson Captain Mavela Masondo confirmed the arrest of a suspect linked to the case. He stated that a 45-year-old man has been arrested and will be facing charges of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, as well as pointing of a firearm.
“A 45-year-old male has been arrested and will be charged with assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and pointing of a firearm. It is alleged that the suspect and his accomplices assaulted the victim and pointed him with firearms while accusing him of selling drugs. The suspect is expected to appear before the Palmridge Magistrate’s Court in due course,” Masondo said.
Sources indicate that police are now searching for two more individuals believed to be involved in the incident, including Khumalo and another member of the crime-fighting group. However, when questioned about whether Khumalo is officially wanted by police, Masondo declined to provide further details.
“Unfortunately, the law does not allow the police to mention the name of a suspect if there is no warrant of arrest issued against him,” Masondo explained.
Khumalo is no stranger to controversy. In 2023, he was arrested and faced serious charges including murder, assault, and theft. Those charges were later withdrawn, and Moja Love subsequently reinstated him as the presenter of Sizok’thola. His return to television at the time sparked mixed reactions from the public, with some welcoming his comeback and others raising concerns about his conduct.
The latest allegations come at a sensitive time for Khumalo, given his political ambitions as an ActionSA mayoral candidate. Neither Khumalo nor ActionSA have publicly commented on the matter at the time of publication. Investigations are ongoing as police continue efforts to locate the remaining suspects linked to the alleged assault.
