Man Dies in Suspected Crocodile Attack at Mogalakwena River

Maleboho police responded to a tragic incident involving a drowning and a suspected crocodile attack at Mogalakwena River in Arrie Village on February 7, 2025, at approximately 09:00 AM.

Discovery of the Body

Upon arrival at the scene, police officers were directed by concerned members of the Arrie Village community to the lifeless body of an African male, which was still floating in the river.

Investigation and Retrieval

A preliminary investigation indicated that the deceased had been last seen fishing in the same area before his disappearance. Authorities suspect that he was attacked by crocodiles, as the river is known to be infested with these dangerous reptiles. The Provincial Search and Rescue Team was immediately called to the scene, and they managed to retrieve the body from the water.

Horrific Injuries and Confirmation of Death

Upon retrieval, it was discovered that the body had sustained severe injuries, with both hands and the stomach missing, further supporting the likelihood of a crocodile attack. Emergency medical personnel (EMS) arrived on the scene and officially declared the man deceased.

Identity of the Deceased

The victim was later identified as Phuthi Oscar Serumula, a resident of Arrie Village in Maleboho. Following the discovery, police registered an inquest case for further investigation.
