Senior Officials Attend Funeral of Fallen Police Officers in Free State

Bloemfontein – Senior government officials, including Free State Premier Maqueen Letsoha-Mathae and Deputy Police Minister Cassel Mathale, gathered to honor the lives of three police constables at a funeral service in Thaba Nchu. Constables Keamogetsewe Buys, Cebekhulu Linda, and Boipelo Senoge were laid to rest after their tragic deaths last month.

Official Funeral for Constable Buys
Constable Buys was given an official police funeral, with her memorial service held at Grasslands Community Hall before burial at Thaba Nchu Cemetery. Her two colleagues, Constables Linda and Senoge, were buried earlier in the week.

Tribute from Police Leadership
National Police Commissioner General Fannie Masemola praised Buys’ dedication to service:
“She served with passion, even when deployed far from home in Operation Vala Umgodi against illegal mining. Her commitment to duty was unwavering.”

Circumstances of the Tragedy
The three officers were last seen on 23 April at the Kranskop Toll Plaza while en route from Bloemfontein to Limpopo for duty. Their vehicle, a white VW Polo, was later found submerged in the Hennops River near Tshwane on 29 April, with their bodies recovered nearby. Investigations into their deaths are ongoing.

Condemnation of Social Media Speculation
Premier Letsoha-Mathae criticized online theories about the case during the joint memorial service:
“Some on social media now claim to be investigators, but we must allow professionals to do their work. Instead, let us support the families grieving this loss.”

The deaths have sparked national mourning, with calls for improved safety measures for officers.
