Teen Musicians “Kick Brass” Captivate Audience with Unforgettable Funk Performance at School Talent Show

A group of talented freshman musicians from Washington has proven that brass instruments can steal the spotlight in today’s digital age. The high school ensemble “Kick Brass” delivered an electrifying funk performance at their school talent show that not only wowed the live audience but has since captured the attention of millions online with their impressive musical abilities and stage presence.

The five-member freshman band—featuring two saxophonists, a trumpeter, a tuba player, and a drummer—commanded the stage with remarkable confidence for their age. From the moment they began, the lead saxophonist demonstrated natural showmanship by promoting their upcoming performances before launching into their set with the playful warning: “We’re gonna take you all down to a place we like to call Funkytown.” What followed exceeded everyone’s expectations!

As the music began, the lead saxophonist unleashed not just impressive playing but also spontaneous, energetic dance moves that transformed the performance into a complete entertainment package. His footwork resembled that of a seasoned performer while his bandmates provided flawless instrumental backup, creating an authentic funk sound that captured the essence of classic 1980s music. Their rendition of the disco hit “Funkytown” by Lipps Inc. demonstrated remarkable musicianship, as they successfully translated electronic elements into rich brass arrangements led by standout saxophone work.

The young musicians continued their musical journey by seamlessly transitioning into James Brown’s iconic “I Got You (I Feel Good),” earning enthusiastic cheers from the audience. The saxophonists displayed impressive coordination by trading solos and harmonizing with exceptional precision, while the trumpeter showcased remarkable range with powerful high notes that demonstrated technical skill beyond their years.

By the conclusion of their performance, the stage was adorned with roses as fellow talent show participants joined them for the final bow. The audience reaction confirmed that Kick Brass had delivered the standout performance of the evening!

The talented ensemble consists of trumpeter Jake Bailey, multi-instrumentalist Ethan Tang (baritone saxophone and trombone), sousaphone player Colton Gehring, tenor saxophonist Oliver Abercrombie, and drummer Mya Grymes. Their talent show performance quickly gained momentum online, accumulating over 1 million YouTube views and opening doors to new opportunities. In 2023, they expanded their reach by performing at the Oak Harbor Music Festival and providing entertainment at Orlando’s Southern Barbecue, where their energetic brass arrangements and impressive instrumental skills had audiences dancing along.

With their combination of musical talent, stage presence, and youthful energy, Kick Brass has established themselves as a memorable act with a promising future in performance!
