Seven Killed in Two Tragic Road Accidents in Mpumalanga
MPUMALANGA – Tragedy struck on 27 May 2025 when two separate road accidents in Mpumalanga claimed the lives of seven people.

Four Die in R38 Collision
According to SABC News, four people lost their lives in a horrific crash on the R38 between Kaapmuiden and Louws Creek near Barberton. A bakkie and a car collided in the evening. Authorities confirmed that all four victims were occupants of the car. Strangely, the occupants of the bakkie were not found at the scene when emergency services arrived.
Three Perish in Fiery Crash on R23
In a separate incident, three people died in a head-on collision between a sedan and a light delivery vehicle on the R23 between Balfour and Val. The victims — one woman and two men — were burned beyond recognition in the blaze that followed the crash.
Public Reaction
The accidents sparked outrage and concern among South Africans on social media. Many took to SABC News’ Facebook page to voice their frustration over the alarming rate of road fatalities.
