Amajita Crowned U20 AFCON Champions After Historic Win Over Morocco

South Africa’s U20 Team Makes History with Maiden AFCON Title
South Africa’s U20 national team, Amajita, made history by clinching their first-ever TotalEnergies U20 Africa Cup of Nations title with a 1-0 victory over Morocco in Cairo. The decisive moment came in the 69th minute when Gomolemo Kekana struck the winning goal, sparking wild celebrations among players and fans.

Individual Brilliance Shines
The triumph was further highlighted by standout performances from two key players:
- Tylon Smith was named Player of the Tournament for his consistent excellence.
- Fletcher Lowe earned Goalkeeper of the Tournament honors after a series of commanding displays.
Rewards for Champions
In recognition of their historic achievement, each player and member of the technical staff will receive smartphones and tech gifts worth R230,000 from HONOR upon their return to South Africa.
Nation Celebrates
Fans, clubs, and public figures took to social media to celebrate the milestone:
- Cape Town City FC hailed their academy graduates who contributed to the victory.
- Former Bafana Bafana star Matthew Booth praised the team, saying, “History made!”
- Politician Gayton McKenzie joined the celebrations, posting: “Champions of Africa!”

Redemption After 28 Years
The win was especially sweet, as South Africa had suffered heartbreak in the 1997 final against the same opponents. This time, under coach Raymond Mdaka, the young stars rewrote history, bringing home the trophy in a moment of national pride.
