18-Year-Old Prodigy Graduates University, Sets Sights on MBA
Johannesburg’s Hazel Ntuli has become one of South Africa’s youngest university graduates at just 18, completing her actuarial science degree from the University of Pretoria—a journey she began at 14. Her remarkable story, recently featured in a viral YouTube video by the university, has inspired thousands.

A Genius Recognized Early
Hazel’s extraordinary academic path became apparent in Grade 3 when she accidentally wrote—and aced—a Grade 4 test. Teachers quickly recognized her potential, accelerating her through school years ahead of peers.
“My teacher saw I could handle higher-level work and encouraged me,” Hazel recalls, crediting faith and determination for her success.
Thriving at University of Pretoria
Choosing UP for its world-class actuarial science program, Hazel stood out not just academically but as the “little sister” among older classmates. With support from mentors, lecturers, and her house mother, she adapted quickly.
“Prayer, vision boards, and remembering my goals kept me focused,” she says. The university provided full tuition, housing, and networking opportunities with industry leaders—key to her STEM passion.
What’s Next? An MBA
Already enrolled in her Honours, Hazel plans to work while pursuing an MBA. “I’ve always wanted one,” she shares, proving her ambition matches her brilliance.
Her story continues to motivate young scholars across South Africa.
