The family of Mercutio Buthelezi (38), former partner of House of Zwide actor Khaya Dladla, is leaning on faith as he undergoes treatment for an undiagnosed cancer. Hospitalized since February, Mercutio’s condition remains uncertain, with doctors yet to confirm whether he has blood cancer or bone marrow cancer.

A Family’s Heartache

His aunt, Nomsa Buthelezi, shared their anguish with Daily Sun:

“He has no signs of recovery and struggles to breathe. We’re praying for God’s intervention—he’s still young, and we need him.”

Mercutio had kept his illness hidden to protect Nomsa, who is diabetic. When she discovered the truth, she was devastated:

“He cries during our visits, saying he’s scared. We beg God for another chance—many survive cancer, and we believe he can too.”

A recent operation in Durban aimed to identify the cancer type, but results are pending. The family clings to hope, citing a cousin who survived cancer for 13 years.
